  • Ground beef: You can also use ground turkey or ground chicken.
  • Taco seasoning: Prepackaged store bought taco seasoning or you can also make my homemade taco seasoning recipe.
  • Refried beans: I prefer to use the Jalapeño canned refried beans, but you can use traditional or even refried black beans.
  • Salsa: A thick salsa works best!
  • Cheese: I use shredded cheddar cheese and pepper jack cheese but you can use whatever kind you like.
  • Olives: I like black olives.
  • Onions: I prefer red onions but white onions will also work.

Recipe tips

  • I highly recommend shredding your own cheese and not using pre-shredded cheese from the package.
  • I like to use acast-iron skilletfor this delicious taco dip because it holds the heat and keeps the dip warm but a baking dish also works.
  • A great way to use leftover taco meat if you have it.

Recipe faq's

Can I serve this taco dip cold?

Yes, if you prefer to have a cold taco dip, just layer the dip and place it in the refrigerator until ready to serve dip with tortilla chips.

Can you make taco dip ahead of time?

Yes, you can definitely get the beans and taco meat done and placed into the oven safe dish. Then when ready to serve pop the dish into the oven, add your toppings and serve!

What are some additional toppings for this easy-layer dip?

I used my favorite taco toppings but this dip is totally customizable, you can add chopped tomatoes, black beans, corn, green pepper, or even green onions. You can add a layer of guacamole but I just recommend putting it in the middle so it won't turn brown as quickly.

How to store leftovers?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
