A beautiful tree should not be missing in any landscape drawing. With this step-by-step guide, you can draw a natural tree in just six sections. This description represents a classic deciduous tree and offers you a template for countless trees that you can easily modify in their shape with a little practice.

For the drawing you need a thin pencil, an eraser-proof pencil and suitable colors to your taste.

Step 1: Silhouette of the trunk and outer branches

Step 1: Silhouette of the trunk and outer branches

First, use a pencil to draw the outer lines of the tree trunk, which merges with the branches at the top. Look for natural curvatures and a slight irregularity.

Step 2: The branch forks

Refine the branchwork with thin pencil strokes.

Step 3: Finishing the main branches

Step 3: Finishing the main branches

Now draw the branches in their width completely. They can end unclearly at the top, as the leaf canopy will join them. Only when depicting trees in winter do you need to continue the branches into the tree canopy.

Step 4: More small branches & leaf crown

Draw the outline of the tree's crown with the pencil, again making sure the lines are natural and irregular.

Step 5: Spatial effects

Step 5: Spatial effects

Give the tree crown and trunk a three-dimensional look with striking highlights such as contours on the bark and additional sections in the leaf crown.

Step 6: Coloring

Step 6: Coloring

In the last step you can bring your drawing to life with color. Draw the pencil lines with a pencil and color the tree with different shades to make it look natural.

This simple and easy to implement template is good for beginners and children. The instructions explain step by step how you can draw a tree with just a few strokes.

You will need a harder pencil, an eraser-proof drawing pencil and colored pencils in green, red and brown. Use the hard pencil (HB, H2) to lightly sketch the contours. If you don't succeed the first time, use the eraser. Use the pencil to trace the contours.

Step 1: Silhouette of the trunk and outer branches

Step 1: Silhouette of the trunk and outer branches

Use the pencil to draw the outline of the trunk with two opposite lines. Make sure that the lines are mirrored, but still symmetrical and have the same shape. The template shows you how to do this.

Step 2: The branch forks

Step 2: The branch forks

Now you draw the branch forks. This is very simple. You add two downward curved arcs to the upper part of the trunk. These are next to each other and divide the trunk into three branches pointing upwards.

Step 3: Finishing the main branches

Step 3: Crown

You put a "lid" on each of the three branches. Then draw an irregular circle around the upper part of the trunk and draw the crown. To make the whole thing look more natural, the circle should not look like it was drawn with a dividers, but the edges have a wavy shape, just like a real tree looks. Close the lower part of the trunk with a line.

Step 4: Spatial effects

Add a few vertical downward strokes to the tree trunk. Again, make sure that the whole thing is not too accurate, but rather natural. The strokes indicate the structure of the bark.

Step 5: Spatial effects

Step 5: Fruits

Now draw the apples on the tree. For this you put a few circles in the crown.

Step 6: Coloring

Step 6: Coloring

You put pencil and drawing pen aside and grab the colors. You paint the tree trunk brown, the tree crown green and the apples red.
